Simu Liu’s SNL Monologue: From Being Spider-Man at Kids’ Birthday Parties to Global Phenomenon Shang-Chi

Saweetie was this week’s musical guest

Simu Liu is having a grand time as this week’s host for NBC’s long-running show, Saturday Night Live.

Simu Liu became the third MCU cast member to host the comedy show, after Owen Wilson and Jonathan Majors, who made their MCU debuts with Loki. The final host for this year will be another MCU star, Paul Rudd.

Simu Liu started by talking about a tweet he sent in 2014 on casting an Asian American as the next superhero, and that majorly foreshadowed his casting for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He described himself as Marvel‘s first openly Chinese superhero, but later clarified that he’s actually Chinese-Canadian.

His tweet ended up getting ten likes at the time, which was actually ten more than what he usually got. Five years later, he got his answer, to which Liu promptly took to Twitter to reply, “Thanks for getting back to me.” He joked about the Canadian in him for that response.

But it can be easily see on how much his life has changed over the past few years. We already know about the infamous stock photos, but he also used to dress up as Spider-Man for kids’ birthday parties. He talked about the time when a kid named Trevor kicked his shins, screaming, “You’re not Spider-Man!”

He ended his monologue with a sweet note to Trevor, saying he was right about him not being Spider-Man. “I’m not Spider-Man. I’m Shang-Chi, b*tch!”

His sketches
