Mass Effect is one of the best RPGs in the gaming world
This comes as a surprise, but Amazon Studios is reportedly going to make a TV series based on BioWare’s popular sci-fi RPG Mass Effect.
Why is this surprising? Because Netflix is known to be more of the risk taker, that dishes out content based on popular video games, creates original anime, aside from adapting comic book characters. Amazon has comic book adaptations, like The Boys, but they have gone into gaming territory just once, after announcing an adaptation of Fallout.
As per a report by Deadline, the studio is about to adapt more popular franchises after the success of the recent Wheel of Time adaptation.
What is Mass Effect?
Mass Effect is a very successful role playing game series created by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The sci-fi space adventure has humans living among with many alien races and other civilizations in a colonized Milky Way galaxy using technology left behind by an advanced precursor civilization. The original trilogy had players playing as Commander Shepard, who is trying to save the galaxy from a race of ancient hibernating machines called the Reapers.
The first game had Shepard and team investigating an agent of the Reapers named Saren Arterius, who later becomes one of the two main antagonists of the game. The second game has Shepard’s team fighting the Collectors, an alien race that is tied in with the Reapers. The third game shows the final war between Shepard’s forces and the Reapers.
The fourth game, titled Mass Effect: Andromeda consisted of a new setting with new characters. A fifth game is currently in development.
Henry Cavill’s involvement
Henry Cavill had teased an image in February, captioning it “Secret project.” Upon closer inspection, the papers in his hand had words like Cerberus, Tali’Zorah, and Geth, all connected to Mass Effect. Now that the deal is almost finalised, we can expect an announcement saying that the Man of Steel actor has been cast already.
