According to a report by Deadline, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh are the latest stars to join the cast of Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil. The other cast include Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Sofia Wylie and Sophia Ann Caruso and the movie will be directed by Paul Feig. Feig had previously directed influential comedies, but he’s been changing things up a bit, as this young adult adaptation is different from his previous movie Last Christmas, which was completely different from the one before, A Simple Favour.
The story
The School for Good and Evil is the first book in the bestseller fantasy book series of the same name by Soman Chainani. The story is set in the fictional place of Endless Woods and is about two friends, Sophie and Agatha, who join the titular School for Good and Evil. The unique institute helps to train lost children in becoming fairytale heroes or villains, and the two friends’ have difficulty deciding which path to choose.
Casting
Fishburne will be playing the School Master Rafael and Yeoh will be playing Professor Emma Anemone. Theron will be playing Lady Lesso, the Dean for the School of Evil, while Washington will play Professor Clarissa Dovey, the Dean for the School of Good. Newcomers Caruso and Wylie will be starring as the best friends Sophie and Agatha.
Both Fishburne and Yeoh have tight schedules, as Fishburne is tied to the ABC spinoff of Black-ish, titled Old-ish, while Yeoh is starring in Hulu’s sci-fi series Boss Level and will be making her MCU debut in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
