The movie is part of Fox Studios’ deal with Hulu
20th Century Studios has teamed up with Hulu for the upcoming comedy, Rosaline. A first look image was released as part of Disney+ Day, as Disney is in charge of the film’s international distribution. The image was of its leading lady Kaitlyn Dever, who was dressed in a period ensemble, with a forlorn expression on her face.
About the movie
Rosaline is a fresh and innovative take on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. However, neither of them are the leads this time. The story is told from the perspective of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline (Dever), who also happened to be Romeo’s ex-girlfriend. Further details are unknown, but the whole cast has been revealed. The movie stars Isabella Merced as Juliet, Kyle Allen as Romeo, and also stars Minnie Driver, Christopher McDonald and Bradley Whitford.
The movie is directed by Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes), and co-written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote 500 Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now, The Fault in Our Stars. The story is based on Rebecca Serle’s 2010 novel, When You Were Mine.
Dever is currently in high demand, especially after getting nominated for a Golden Globe for Netflix‘s Unbelievable and her performance in Booksmart was also well-received. She was last seen in Hulu’s Dopesick opposite Michael Keaton and Will Poulter.
Production status
Rosaline has been in development for a while, and was once attached to MGM, before going back to the market and getting acquired by Fox. Since the first look is out, we can expect a trailer by the end of this month or the next, as the movie will be out in 2022. We have no information on whether it will release in theatres before arriving to Hulu.
