The movie will premiere on Hulu in Summer 2022
20th Century Fox is returning to the Predator franchise, but this time with a prequel film. Titled Prey, the movie takes place 300 years in the past in the Comanche Nation. The lead character is Naru, played by Amber Midthunder, who is a skilled and fierce warrior who protects her tribe from the Predator.
The movie will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who had directed 10 Cloverfield Lane.
History of Predator
Prey is the fifth instalment in the franchise, and will be the first-ever prequel. The franchise began in 1987 with the critically-acclaimed Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story was about an alien race that made its way to Earth, and killed humans brutally with their advanced technology and instincts. The movie warranted a sequel, and we saw Predator 2 come out in 1990.
After 20 years, the franchise got revived with 2010’s Predators. The final movie was 2018’s The Predator. The movies had crossovers with Ridley Scott’s Alien and we got two of those as well.
However, the 2018 movie was a box office disaster, and had a weak story as well. Therefore, it is good that the franchise is getting reinvented, and takes us back 3 centuries where humans had been more primal, and was more in tune with nature.
Partnership with Hulu
We are uncertain if Prey will have a theatre run as it will be premiering on Hulu. The movie will be internationally available on Disney+. 20th Century is also going to debut Rosaline, a Romeo & Juliet story with a humorous twist, The Princess, an action movie set in a fairy tale world, and No Exit, a suspense thriller, on Hulu.
