New ‘Planet of the Apes’ Movie Title Revealed, Production To Start In October

The Planet of the Apes franchise has found greater success after the last trilogy. Now, a new set of films have been greenlit at Disney, the new acquirer of 20th Century Studios, and the title has been revealed – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Let’s find out more about the franchise below.

The new movie takes place years after Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes. Caesar dies at the end of the movie, and the protagonist role has gone from Andy Serkis to Owen Teague. Serkis is a major contributor to the franchise’s success. Additional cast members include The Witcher star Freya Allan, and The Orville star Peter Macon. The movie will be directed by Wes Ball, director of Maze Runner, and the screenplay has been written by Josh Friedman, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, and Patrick Aison.

20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell shared his excitement about the project and said that the franchise will be entering an “extraordinary” era with Ball as director.

The Planet of the Apes franchise’s movie history dates back to 1968, after it was adapted from Pierre Boulle’s famous novel by the same name. It became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, and received four theatrical sequels and two television adaptations. The movies have collected more than $1.7 billion worldwide.  As the franchise got darker, so did the love for it. As Caesar’s war ended, now a new one begins.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has not received a release date as of yet, but it is arriving in 2024.
