Marvel’s ‘Armor Wars’ Becomes Feature Film, No Longer A Disney+ Project

Rhodey, aka War Machine, finally takes the lead

This was a huge surprise, but it’s happening. Armor Wars, originally included in the MCU roster as a Disney+ series will now be a feature film that will be released in theatres. The news came first from The Hollywood Reporter, who stated that the change was made mid-development.

About Armor Wars

Marvel

Armor Wars is adapted from the comics by the same name, and its main focus was on the legacy that billionaire genius Tony Stark left behind. Tony’s awe-inspiring armor and weapons technology fall in the hands of multiple villains, who utilize them for evil. It is an apt time to tell the story in the MCU, since Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) has died during the Infinity Saga, and his tech is still mentioned here and there. Tony’s best friend James Rhodes, aka War Machine, is still present and doing missions for the military. The series was originally planned to include Dominique Thorne, who will soon be making her MCU debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She becomes Tony’s successor Ironheart in the comics. Ironheart will also be getting her own Disney+ series in late 2023. Meanwhile, Cheadle will be seen in the spy-thriller Secret Invasion, alongside Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury.

Creative Changes

Even though Armor Wars will now be a movie, it is still expected to keep the same creative team. The series’ leading writer Yassir Lester will now be writing the movie’s screenplay. The remaining team details is expected to come in the following months. But it is yet to be seen where the release date will be fitted as the MCU is pretty full with releases going up to 2026.
