Matt Reeves Explains how ‘The Batman’ Sets up its own Batverse

The movie comes out on March 4

As the release date of The Batman dawns closer, director Matt Reeves spoke about the movie’s future.

The Batman is a reimaging of the character that was never done before in live-action. We see the Caped Crusader utilizing his detective skills, just as much as his fists or tech. The Riddler is the main antagonist, and is also portrayed in a new light. We will be seeing Bruce and Selina Kyle in the big screen after 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

In an interview with EW, the director mentioned some of the ideas he pitched to Warner Bros. One of this included crafting an entire world around his version of Gotham City. Reeves feels like characters like Selina Kyle, Penguin, Riddler, and Commissioner Gordon can be used more in the future. Penguin has already received his HBO Max spin-off series.

However, the plans can be set in motion only if audiences love Robert Pattinson’s more grounded take on the Batman. Apart from the usual loud netizens who hate casting choices, The Batman had positive receptions for the trailers. Reeves, along with the stars is seeing a lot of promise in the movie. His plan is to create a Batverse, but he made the movie in a way that it’s an established solo outing. The ultimate idea is that Gotham’s story never ends.

In another Q&A for the movie in Los Angeles, Reeves was asked if there would be a Catwoman solo series. However, Reeves dodged them by directing them towards the HBO Max reps. He once again mentioned that any show will depend on the success of The Batman. In another interview, Reeves also discussed about Mr. Freeze as the villain, in case a sequel happens.
