Horizon Forbidden West Review: An Absolute Treat in Every Way

The game followed up on their promise of beating its predecessor

Horizon Forbidden West is officially out on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and what a game it turned out to be!

When Guerilla Games first released Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, the fans loved it. The sequel was announced soon after, and they promised it will be “more.” And what does that “more” mean exactly? It meant a “more” on everything. Read on.

The experience

Horizon Forbidden West beats its predecessor in every level. The quests, characters, encampments, collectibles, environments, and new deadly opponents. The weapons and methods of travel gives the game a rich feel, and you will cherish every moment you spent in this wilderness. The locations are almost photo-real. But that does not mean it’s perfect. They applied the concept of “more” and tried to set up bigger worlds. This has affected the storytelling at places, and makes it lose a bit of heart.

However, Aloy is still a great character, and some parts of the story can be forgiven, due to the bigger picture. The world we see looks beautiful, but it’s still on the brink of famine. You get the feel that you’re a hero who is out to save the world. The relationships that Aloy builds with the supporting characters are also worth more than the story.

The game is breath-taking in the PS5, but that’s not to say that the PS4 lags behind too much. But the game was developed keeping the PS5’s mechanics on mind, and that was why it turned out so well. But Guerilla promised that they delivered well on the PS4 as well, and captured the same atmosphere and feel.
