The series is adapted from the best-selling novel by Bentley Little
Amazon has casted Christoph Waltz, best known for Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds, to star in a dark comedy workplace thriller series called The Consultant.
The two-time Oscar winner will also be an executive producer on the show.
About the show
The series is inspired from Bentley Little’s 2015 novel of the same name, where a consultant named Mr. Regus Patoff comes to save a struggling software company named CompWare after a supposed merger. But the man who came to be their saviour ends up being the biggest menace they had seen, after Patoff quickly understands the tricks of the trade and also seizes control over the entire operation.
He soon starts invading the lives of the employees as well. Things turn nightmarish when employees start dying in “accidents” or committing suicide. Every move of theirs started being monitored; even bathroom breaks started being recorded on video.
The Consultant is adapted by Servant creator Tony Basgallop, and WandaVision director Matt Shakman. It will be produced by MGM and Amazon Studios, and will premiere in Amazon Prime Video.
Christoph Waltz’s arrival on Amazon
Christoph Waltz last appeared in Daniel Craig’s final Bond film, No Time to Die, and The French Dispatch. His last television role was in Quibi’s Most Dangerous Game next to Liam Hemsworth, a role which got him a Primetime Emmy nomination. Meanwhile, director Shakman had also received an Emmy nomination for WandaVision, and is currently set to release the second season of the Hulu comedy series, The Great.
MGM’s head of scripted TV Michael Wright says that The Consultant is something truly exciting, and that they’re thrilled to partner up with Amazon. Anyone who has read the novel will know that they’re in for a show and Christoph Waltz’s return.
