The underwater journey unfolds
We are getting closer to the grand release of James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. The sequel to the world’s biggest blockbuster returns after over twelve years, and with that, we finally received a full trailer. The movie took its sweet time with the trailer, especially since it’s been five months since the teaser came out.
Avatar: The Way of Water Trailer
Avatar: The Way of Water addresses the time jump, and is set a decade after Jake’s arrival and eventual adventure in Pandora. He has now started a family with Neytiri, but old problems resurface, but with bigger stakes. Jake has to rely on new allies and also his family if he has any chance of defending his new home and its people.
The trailer also showed how much more epic the franchise has become. Of course, the story will be fleshed out, with the movie having a runtime of over three hours. The story will be predominantly set underwater, something that took a long time to film as the crew struggled with water tanks.
Production Details
While we had to wait over a decade for Avatar: The Way of Water, there will be plenty of Avatar content for us in the upcoming years. Director James Cameron has planned a total of four sequels, stretching up to 2028. While the movies are not made back-to-back, producer JonLandau said earlier this month that the first act of Avatar 4 has already been filmed due to “logistical reasons.” However, we will only get to see it unfold in 2028.
Avatar: The Way of Water will feature an ensemble cast lead by Sam Worthington, as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, as well as Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Michelle Yeoh, Giovanni Ribisi, Edie Falco, CCH Pounder, and Oona Chaplin.
Watch the magic on the big screen as Avatar 2 releases worldwide on December 16.
