The incident was reported by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s office
On Wednesday night, Essaul Morales, a 38-year-old resident of Paterson allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old woman in a domestic dispute and committed suicide later that night by jumping from the roof of another building. The woman was found by the police at around 9:30 p.m. and was said to be suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Turbulent Week For Paterson Residents
The woman was in critical condition and was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. The statement was that Morales and the woman argued which led to him assaulting her, and Morales took his own life later, according to prosecutors.
Authorities are still investigating the case and believe that no third party is involved in this incident. It had been quite the violent week in the city, as there had been a shooting on Tuesday, which claimed the life of four people, and on Wednesday, a man belonging to New York’s most wanted list was killed by the U.S. Marshal Service, and both incidents took place in the 4th Ward of Paterson.
In another case, Paterson Police Department faced a possible assailant who had a gun in his person. The case was presented by Detective Mustafa Dombayci who witnessed a man, later identified as Mark Champion, 21, carry a handgun and place it in a bag attached to his person.
Dombayci had been patrolling in 17th Avenue and East 28th Street at around 8:30 p.m., when he, along with three other officers from the Street Crime Unit saw Champion near the intersection. After alerting the others, the four of them lost no time in approaching Champion and taking hold of his weapon. Thankfully there was no incident and he’s placed in custody.
