From vampire to captain
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has officially unveiled its Captain James T. Kirk. The iconic role will be played by Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley. William Shatner and Chris Pine previously played the role.
The series is in its post-production phase, and will arrive in May. Strange New Worlds already got renewed for its second season in January.
The story of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
The new CBS and Paramount+ show follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). Pike, along with Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One/Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romjin) is on a cosmic adventure to explore new worlds. The story is a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series starring Shatner.
In the meantime, we have not yet said goodbye to Chris Pine just yet. The actor still plays Kirk and is expected to return for the role in Star Trek 4, set to release in 2023.
Wesley’s reaction
Wesley took to Twitter to share his reaction on the big announcement. He said that was “deeply humbled and still a little startled” to play the character. Next, he revealed that he met Shatner on a flight to L.A., and got to talk, and even took a picture.
For those who are still unfamiliar with Wesley, he is a big television star who has been around since 1999. Wesley began on the soap opera Guiding Light, before appearing on Army Wives, Everwood, 24, and the famous Vampire Diaries. He will be appearing on the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and we are yet to see how big of a role it will be.
Kirk is strong, heroic, and brash, but also mischievous and playful at times. Both Shatner and Pine had brought this out well with their roles, so it will be exciting to see how Wesley plays his part.
