Life and Career
Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, in the Bronx borough of New York City. Both her parents are Puerto Rican. She enrolled in singing and dancing lessons when she was five. Her parents encouraged her and her two sisters to perform at home. In school, Lopez did gymnastics, ran track on a national level, and was on the high school softball team.

Lopez wanted to pursue a career in acting, but her parents disagreed. To keep them happy, she joined Baruch College but dropped out after the first semester. Following disagreements with her parents, she moved out and started living in an apartment in Manhattan. Soon, she got to act in small productions and became part of the chorus for Golden Musicals of Broadway, then became a singer, dancer, and choreographer on a show called Synchronicity in Japan.

Her breakout Hollywood role came in 1995 when she got the lead role in the biopic movie Selena, based on Tejano singer Selena Perez. She starred in many movies and TV shows afterwards and her last movie which received a lot of praise was the 2019 movie Hustlers.
