Titled Yuri!!! on Ice the movie: Ice Adolescence, an official announcement hasn’t been given but a trailer was released
Its been four years since Yuri!!! on Ice happened and fans have been eagerly awaiting for its next announcement. Just as they felt their hopes dashing, Studio MAPPA, the anime’s production studio made an announcement confirming that they’re currently producing a movie.
The anime, which is about ice figure skating was a massive success when it released in 2016 and won a lot of praise for the excellent depiction of skating and the mental health and romantic relationship between its skating stars, Yuri and Victor. Yuri Katsuki is the main character, who, after a disastrous Grand Prix Final, leaves for his hometown in Hasetsu, Japan, wondering if he should make a return to the sport he loves. But then he finds out that his idol Victor Nikiforov, who was a five-time World Champion, will be becoming his coach.
Movie news
The anime ended with a hint saying they will be back for more. MAPPA had announced the movie and it’s name in 2017, and showed a poster of Victor, presumably in Russia, so it looks like it will be focusing more on him and his glory days.
MAPPA had gone silent afterwards, making fans worry, but they came with a trailer on November 26, and apologised to the fans and asked for their generous understanding, before reassuring that the movie is indeed happening and the team is working hard on it. In the trailer, we see Victor right from the age of 17 when he started to be totally immersed in figure skating. Despite being an enigmatic person, Victor still remained a mystery in the first season, so this movie will help us know more about him.
