The Skull Breaker Challenge is the New Trend on Social Media, but Have you Weighed How Dangerous it is?

The internet is the place where absurd ideas originate. A trend picks up its pace and people rush to take part in it. It makes people do stupid tasks and when the camera is rolling there are a lot of possibilities for fails and viral moments. The newest fad is the skull-breaker challenge.

It is popular on YouTube, Twitter and especially TikTok, and usually features teenagers.

What is the skull-breaker challenge?

The skull-breaker challenge involves some serious injury- to the head mostly. A boy broke his arm due to the challenge and one family sued the school of their sixteen-year-old daughter when she participated in the challenge. It is advised to not participate in the challenge.

A Brazilian girl in December died from a fatal injury after participating in the dangerous skull breaker challenge. The challenge works this way: In front of the camera, three people stand next to each other. The two people on the sides claim that they will be jumping up as they are filmed. As the middle one jumps the other two instead of jumping, kick the person’s ankles which makes them fall to the ground.

But it’s viral so injuries should decrease?

The challenge has gone viral so the middle person will probably know about it. But people will do anything for views, right?

The knowledge of the challenge will still not prevent the person’s injury. There is no guarantee that the middle jumper will stop themselves from getting injured.

Denise Klinkner, pediatric surgeon in Mayo Clinic, said to the New York Post that even though the middle jumper will know the intent of the challenge the teen will not stop their fall as they rapidly land. It at least results in a concussion.
