Celebration time for the Wannables
Wanna One had a short career, compared to most K-pop bands. After debuting under Swing Entertainment in 2017, the group made a joint decision to not extend their contracts after December 31. Wanna One officially disbanded on 27 January 2019 after their final performance at Gocheok Sky Dome.
But things are changing!
The reunion
On November 14, the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) confirmed that the boy band will be reuniting to perform at the special awards function on December 11. The members will be having a special performance.
The organizing committee said that Wanna One, which had set numerous domestic as well as foreign music records will perform, and so will the Street Woman Fighter crews, who have appeared in K-Dance.
Out of all the 11 members of Wanna One- Yoon Jisung, Ha Sungwoon, Kwang Minhyun, Ong Seongwu, Kim Jaehwan, Kang Daniel, Park Jihoon, Park Woojin, Bae Jinyoung, Lee Daehwi, and Lai Kuanlin, everyone except Lai Kuanlin will be performing.
Future plans
CJ group is the head office of CJ Entertainment & Media (CJ ENM), and Music Network (Mnet). Currently, CJ ENM is having discussions with the members on forming the band again, after their December 11th performance. But some other labels are against this idea, one of them being Pledis Entertainment.
Kwang Minhyun is contracted by the group, and they said he will only be available for this performance. They added that Minhyun is currently busy with the preparations for the NU’EST concert that will be taking place in Seoul from November 26th to 28th. He is also going to star in a drama series.
Meanwhile, Ong Seong Wu is still on the fence about reuniting, as he is busy filming for a new Netflix movie. Only time will tell if there will be a proper reunion.
