2022 is off to a good start!
YG Entertainment had a surprising announcement to make on New Year’s Day. They announced at midnight KST that their boy band TREASURE is returning after their hiatus with an all new album titled The Second Step. They also released a poster to commemorate the event on their official Twitter handle. The poster was a beautiful green, with coming soon written on it. It also included a ‘Happy New Year’ message.
Preparing hard
A YG Entertainment spokesperson stated that announcing their return on New Year’s Day will be more meaningful for TREASURE. He also added that the 12-member group, which consists of Choi Hyun-suk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashiho, Yoon Jae-hyuk, Asahi, Bang Ye-dam, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeong-woo and So Jung-hwan have been preparing hard for this comeback.
The group members were selected by the agency via their survival program YG Treasure Box (2018). They were officially banded together in 2019 and made their debut in 2020 with their single album The First Step: Chapter One. They were in the public’s eye since they were the first group to debut under YG nearly four years after BLACKPINK’s debut. Their album won the Rookie of the Year award at the Asia Artist Awards 2020. The album also sold more than one million copies in just five months, which is a huge deal for a rookie team.
Release date
Unfortunately, YG Entertainment didn’t disclose when they will be returning, but seeing how K-pop idols usually release new music, we can expect it to drop in the first half of this year. It won’t be surprising if it even comes as soon as February.
