The celebrity couple, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are everyone’s favourite for a reason!
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively had been actively participating in recent happenings in the world such as giving charity to COVID-19 relief organisations, and have been vocal about the Black Lives Matter protests. And recently, the Deadpool actor spoke about how much he and Blake regrets their decision to get married at Boone Hall, which happened to be a former plantation.
The couple got married in 2012, and decided the venue after seeing it in Pinterest. In May, Pinterest banned all plantation-style wedding content and their photos are no longer in the website. But the the two actors will be working to do better nonetheless.
Making a change
Reynolds spoke about the matter to Fast Company, amid talks about the Black Lives Matter movement. He said that the shame of getting married in that location will stay with them but they will not lose the motivation to do all they can to be anti-racist.
He said that it was something that’s impossible to reconciled and at that time, all they saw was a wedding venue on Pinterest. It was only later they found that it was built atop devastating tragedy. He said that a mistake like that can cause you to either shut down entirely, or move you into action, but by no means does it mean that you won’t make mistakes again.
In June, the Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively shared on their official Instagram handles how they plan to raise their three daughters James, Inez, and Betty differently than how they were raised. They wrote that they will be raising their daughters in such a way that they will always be doing their best to never inflict pain consciously or unconsciously to anyone.
They also donated $200,000 to the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund.
