The series will be executive produced by creator Eiichiro Oda, who stated before that he had been working with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios on a Hollywood-sized adaptation on the beloved series. It had been announced a long time ago, but only started trending again last year. He added that they finalized on the cast after considering numerous criterias – the size of their mouths and hands, their voice, their height, of course their acting skills, and how they carry themselves. He said that they scouted for people around the world.

One Piece is one among several popular manga/animes that are getting live action versions by Netflix. We will be getting the live-action Cowboy Bebop next week, and Yu Yu Hakusho and Gundam to be adapted somewhere down the line.

One Piece has been one of the longest-running series, and recently celebrated its 1000th anime episode as well. If this adaptation works, there will be plenty of source material to make future seasons.
