Warner is Eyeing a 2024 release
When it rains, it pours. The Lord of the Rings franchise has just announced their latest feature – an anime. Titled Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the series comes from Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.
The series has a great team behind-the-scenes, and offers some brilliant animation. But let’s read that in detail below.
Plot details
The War of Rohirrim is another prequel series, just like the Amazon Prime’s The Rings of Power. It is set two centuries before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The story will explore the exploits of the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand. We will get to see Helm in action, and how he created Helm’s Deep, the stronghold that appeared in The Two Towers movie.
Warner Bros. has released some concept arts to tease the show. It is very much in sync with the movies by Peter Jackson and will continue to explore Middle-earth. The screenplay will be penned by Phoebe Gittins and her writing partner Arty Papageorgiou. The original script came from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. It’s creative team consists of Oscar winners of the previous LOTR movies. This includes Richard Taylor, the makeup and visual effects lead, Alan Lee, the art director, and John Howe, the illustrator for J.R.R. Tolkien.
Animation team
War of Rohirrim will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). It will be animated by Sola Entertainment, the studio behind Black Lotus.
It is important to know that War of Rohirrim is not connected to The Rings of Power in any way. It’s more recent, compared to the Amazon show, which is set millennia before the original movies.
Voice actors will be revealed at a later date as the show prepares for a 2024 release.
