The movie will premiere exclusively on Disney+
Disney has just released the official trailer for their next animated movie. This time, they are rebooting the popular book Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. And the visuals sure look promising, as they look ripped straight out of the book.
The first live-action movie came out in 2010, and had four sequels. However, the fourth sequel, called The Long Haul was a semi-reboot that failed to make a mark. Disney announced the animated movie in 2020. From the trailer, it’s easy to assume that it will adapt Jeff Kinney’s original book from scratch and follows Greg Heffley’s middle school life.
The trailer
The trailer invoked plenty of nostalgia for many of us who had read the books in our childhood. We see Greg try to attain popularity in his middle school, and occasionally getting embarrassed by his best friend Rowley. We see the famous “cheese touch” moments back, as it was a big deal in the first book. And most importantly, Greg’s family was also shown, recreating some of their iconic moments.
The animation is also worth special mention as it followed the famous illustrative style we see in Kinney’s books. It did a solid job just like 2015’s The Peanuts Movie that stayed faithful to the original drawings without bringing a new twist to the characters.
Production team
The movie is directed by Swinton O. Scott III. Scott has done several episodes of Futurama and Family Guy in the past. The movie was first developed by 20th Century Fox, but was acquired by Disney after they bought the company.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid original trilogy had plenty of fans, and the reception to the new movie’s trailer was also positive. Don’t miss it when it premiers exclusively on Disney+ on December 3rd.
