Actress Camille Saviola probably best known for her performance as Kai Opaka Sultan in the “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” series has expired on October 29, at the age of 71. The news of her demise was first announced by the Star Trek website. However, the reason for her death is not clear yet.

Condolences by friends and the Star Trek team

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Saviola’s Kai Opaka role became a prominent part of the Star Trek universe. While reporting the demise of the valued actress Star Trek team posted that Camille Saviola made her mark on the Star Trek Universe as the incredible Kai Opaka and that she will be greatly missed. 

Camille’s long-time friend, actor Harvey Fierstein posted a tweet in which he expressed that she was a friend for 40 years who could always be counted on for a laugh, a shoulder, or a kick in the ass. Further, actor Wilson Cruz, tweeted: “What a presence this woman was! My heart is heavy. My love to Camille’s family and family of friends throughout the industry. She will be missed.”  Numerous friends of Saviola took to social media expressing their condolences.

Camille Saviola: Major works

The actress who was born in 1950 was captivated by arts right from her childhood. She made her acting debut as Mama Maddelena, a Broadway show in the 1982’s musical, Nine. Two years later she did a small role in 1984’s Broadway Danny Rose. Some of her other film works include The Purple Rose of Cairo, Fog, Last Exit of Brooklyn, and Betsy’s Wedding.

In 1993, the actress first appeared as Kai Opaka in Star Trek: DSN. Apart from DSN, Saviola also appeared in several TV shows like Saving Grace, First Monday, Judging Amy, and so on. In 2006, Saviola played the mother of Turtle in the HBO show Entourage.
