In an interview with Fox News, Maitland Ward said that it’s an empowering story for women and everyone. The memoir was about living your truth and not listening to what others tell you to do. She recounted Hollywood telling her that she can only be a certain way. It felt like the industry wanted to box her in, and she reached a point where she wanted to do her own thing. Taking that step made her the authentic self she is today.

Maitland Ward then spoke of her experience in Boy Meets World, saying they were nice to her. She had joined at a time when everyone had already figured their part in the show. But things changed when she was asked to try on lingerie for the producers, mainly men. She recalled it being an uncomfortable experience.

Following the series, she starred in 2004’s White Chicks, but realized she was being typecast. She tried reinventing herself but failed. She then started posting pictures of herself in bikinis or cosplay on social media. This led to people asking why she doesn’t sell content. Maitland Ward decided to explore her sexuality and started making adult films in 2006. She said it gave her more fame, more money, more dialogue, and the opportunity to write scripts.
