Attack on Titan is currently airing the second part of season 4, and protagonist/antagonist Eren Jaeger’s head got blown off. Episode 19 showed Eren, along with his half brother Zeke, successfully unlocking the Founding Titan’s power. Zeke had the royal blood, while Eren contained the Founder within him, thanks to his father Grisha. But things turned out differently.
Ymir was the very first Titan, also known as the Original Titan, and she gave the other titans their powers. Eren was said to possess the Coordinate, the ability to mind control almost anyone. Zeke wanted to use this power for his plan of mass genocide.
The brothers where able to use Zeke’s royal blood abilities and Eren’s Founder to reach the Paths, the place where they can meet Ymir. The Paths is a vast desert where only Ymir stayed. Time works differently and infinite years can pass by in a second. Ones with royal blood can conjure anything while inside the Paths, and Zeke used this opportunity to trap Eren.
Zeke then revealed that Ymir was nothing but a slave with the power of a god. She had no free will and only existed to serve those with royal blood. Since Eren is a die-hard supporter of freedom, it will be interesting to see how he interacts with Ymir in the next episode.
But what knocked the wind out of Eren is the fact that the power of the Founder is of no use. It is merely a tool to transport the wielder to Ymir. This can be a reason why Grisha was able to get the powers from the Reiss family so easily. In the coming episodes, we can see more of Ymir’s backstory, and how the fate of the world will rest with Zeke, unless Eren manages to one up him yet again.
