Now that the protection feature is pre-installed, here are steps on how to disable it for users who don’t require it
Windows Defender is an anti-malware and anti-virus protection feature that was made to, well, keep the computer safe. It had always been available, but installing it was optional for the Windows XP and Windows 7. But in the latest Windows 10, it’s already pre-installed.

It’s fine in its roles of keeping your computer safe against regular threats, but it won’t accommodate any alternate anti-virus features. However, the Defender can automatically disable itself when you install another anti-virus feature, but disabling it permanently is tricky. Disabling it will leave your computer vulnerable, but if you still need to disable it, here are some steps.
Different options to Turn Off Windows Defender in Windows 10
- Hold the Windows Key, and press the R key. Or, select the start menu and type Run and open it.
- Type gpedit.msc and click on Ok.
- Next, go to Computer Configuration > Windows Components > Windows Defender Antivirus.
- On the right-hand side, double-click on the Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus option.
- Select Enabled and click OK.
- Finally, restart your computer.
The next option is for computers having Windows 10 Home. You will need to turn it off via Registry. Please note that it’s a risky process.
- Hold the Windows Key and Select R. Or, you can search Run on the start menu.
- Type regedit and select Ok. If the User Account Control asks permission, select Yes.
- Next, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PolDefender. Otherwise, just copy/paste this address into the Registry’s address bar.
- On the right side, right-click at the empty area and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Type in DisableAntiSpyware and press the Enter key.
- Double-click the DisableAntiSpyware key, type 1 in the Value data and press OK.
- Restart your computer.
