Know more about the Netflix limited series about a chess prodigy
Anya Taylor-Joy is easily one of the most promising actresses in Hollywood. She is also notably famous for her intense, and unnerving stare so she naturally got casted as a chess prodigy. Taylor-Joy will be starting in Netflix’s new limited series The Queen’s Gambit, based on Walter Tevis’s 1983 novel, which tells the story about an orphan in late 1950s Kentucky called Beth Harmon who finds out she’s extremely gifted in chess. She also gets addicted to tranquilized which were used as sedatives for children at that time.
Synopsis and show creators
As per a Netflix synopsis, the show will be about a person who is haunted by her personal demons and fueled by a cocktail of narcotics and obsession. Beth becomes an impressively skilled and glamorous outcast as the show goes on, and sets out to conquer the traditional boundaries established by the male dominated world of competitive chess.

The show has been co-created, executive produced, directed and written by Scott Frank(Logan, Godless), with Allan Scott who is also the co-creator and executive producer. The other cast members are director Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones), Moses Ingram, Harry Melling, and Bill Camp.

Taylor-Joy was last seen in and as Emma, and her long delayed movie New Mutants is finally releasing this Friday. About her character, she said she learnt about her while shooting the series, and said she learnt more about chess than she ever thought in her life. She also learnt to play and enjoy the game in the process, so that she understands what the characters are talking about while playing the game.
