The Last Kingdom: Season 5 is Nothing that Fans Predicted with the Finale of Season 4

Is the story of Uhtred far from over?

Season four of Netflix’s The Last Kingdom aired in April 2020 and we see Uhtred of Bebbanburg getting ready to fight against his challengers so that he can take his home back.

Adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s novels, The Saxon Stories, it’s safe to say that there’s plenty of material left to cover, and hence more seasons to come too. Read on for more details on season 5.

Netflix has confirmed that there’s going to be a fifth season for The Last Kingdom. The show’s executive producer Nigel Merchant also confirmed the news and said that thanks to the big response that season 4 had, they will be bringing the next season so that fans get to see the next chapter in Uhtred’s journey.

The show, which first aired on the BBC, was taken by Netflix after the second season. Season 3 aired in November 2018 and season four came in April 26, 2020. Determining when season five will release is hard, because of all that’s been happening in the world, but a wild guess would be April 2021. But there are chances of that getting postponed to mid or late 2021. But the show is under production nonetheless.

As for the cast, sadly we won’t be seeing Ian Hart as Father Beocca as he lost his life in the previous season. We can expect to see a new side to Uhtred as he has lost his father figure and moral compass. Other characters who lost their lives were Cnut (Magnus Bruun) and Steapa (Adrian Bouchet).

We don’t know what exactly will happen in the next season, but Netflix has provided a synopsis saying that Uhtred has realised that his destiny is connected to the future of England, and not just Bebbanburg.
