The epic superhero show is going to debut on May 7
This is the age of new superhero shows to come out, besides Marvel and DC. Independent comic franchises are getting their live-action versions, like Amazon Prime’s The Boys, and Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. Netflix has now introduced their next superhero show, titled Jupiter’s Legacy. The show’s first teaser revealed that it’s going to release on May 7, 2021.
And now the show’s creator Mark Millar has given a brief idea on what the show’s going to be like. Millar called it a mix between The Avengers, The Godfather Part II and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Cast and plot
Jupiter’s Legacy stars Josh Duhamel as Sheldon Sampson/ The Utopian, Ben Daniels as Walter Sampson, and Leslie Bibb ad Grace Sampson, who are a family of superheroes who belong to a team called The Union.
The other cast members include Tyler Mane as the villain Blackstar, Elena Kamlouris as Chloe Sampson and Andrew Horton ad Brandon Sampson. They’re the kids of Sheldon and Grace, who struggle to live up to the immense legacy of their parents.
The show revealed some first images of the detailed Millarworld costumes, and it looks like Millar and showrunner Sang Kyu have stayed faithful to the source material as much as they can. Nothing else about the story has been revealed, but it looks seriously intriguing and we are waiting to see the rest of Millar’s first collaboration with the world’s biggest streaming service.
In an Interview with Empire, Millar said that his characters are a blend of the three aforementioned movies, and that the story has a truly epic scope, taking place over 50 years. He also added that Netflix didn’t curb his ambition and let him carry on as he pleased.
The show was originally shot in 2019, but after the first showrunner’s exit, it had some hurdles to get through. Hopefully, more footage will come before May.
