In a recent concert, Ricky Martin didn’t look happy while talking about his new album. The new album is influenced by the U.S. territory’s political turmoil. And also the struggle to recover from Hurricane Maria and a recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake which caused one death and destroyed homes of hundreds. He dedicated his song for those not being heard.
Last year, the 48-year-old Puerto Rican singer joined the big demonstrations last year which led Ricardo Rosselló to resign as the island’s governor. Although he hasn’t been in the recent protests against current Gov. Wanda Vázquez. But he has given support on social media for her stepping down.
Initially, he didn’t have an idea for the album. He was going through a very romantic period in his life when he started recording. All changed when the protests erupted in Puerto Rico in 2019. Along with other artists, Martin also participated in the demonstrations. And found an idea for this album.

The title of the album will be “Movimiento”. It will contain 12 songs. He will try to express his experience in the songs.
The newly released single “Tiburones” from the album means sharks in Spanish. The video displays a woman face to face with police in riot gear. Many criticized him for his involvement in the 2019 protests. Also for his recent comments about the current government’s rejoinder to the earthquake and strong aftershocks, blaming him of being an opportunist. Many others posted online messages asking him to stay out of the island’s affairs. But he remains unfazed.

He said if he doesn’t live in Puerto Rico, does it means he should not be interested in it. But he believes in opposite to it. Not being on the island has made him honour his culture more, appreciate his people more, his language, his music, where he comes from.
