The Next James Bond: “Idris Elba is Part of the Conversations,” Says Producer

Will Elba get the license to kill?

Daniel Craig had brought new meaning to iconic British spy James Bond, but he said goodbye to the character after the recently-released No Time to Die. Rumours about who the next could be has been doing the rounds, but nothing was finalized. But now, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli had something interesting to say.

In an interview with Deaadline, Broccoli spoke about their plans. They are currently considering Idris Elba for the part. As many of you know, Idris has been fan-casted for the role over the past decade. It was happening even before Daniel hung up his gun and turned in his MI6 badge.

Broccoli said that they’re friends, and that Idris Elba is a magnificent actor. But she admitted that it is difficult on talking about who the next Bond will be when there is already someone present. She added that they’re still in no hurry to decide who is next because they still want to savour and reap the benefits of No Time to Die.

GoldenEye star Pierce Brosnan had also vouched for Idris to play the role, along with Tom Hardy. Over the years, various actors have been fan casted, including Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page, Luke Evans, and Henry Cavill. Idris Elba himself is aware that he’s a favourite among the fan casters, and was asked the question in numerous interviews. His final answer in October 2021 was “no.”

Bond movies take a long time to develop, and perhaps it’s wiser to consider someone in their 30s. As great as Idris Elba looks for his age, he is 49 and can have difficulty filming for such an action-oriented franchise.
