“The Matrix 4” has Keanu Reeves and Young Morpheus and Their Roles are Reversed?

The Matrix 4 might feature Neo and a younger Morpheus in switched roles. The first movie of the series The Matrix is known to be the best of the series and revolutionary work in cinema. The two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions weren’t well received with the audience. Still, the fans are excited about the fourth installment in the series which was announced in 2019.

Neo is old but Morpheus is young?

There is not much information about The Matrix 4 and what its story will be about. Keanu Reeves will return as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss will return as Trinity. Along with them, Yahya Abdul Mateen II is also cast and he is speculated to play a young Morpheus. There are a lot of questions regarding Neo and Trinity as older versions of themselves and Morpheus as a younger man. In this case, Neo and Morpheus can switch their places from the first movie and form a new duo.

Set photos of The Matrix 4 reveal Keanu Reeves in regular clothes standing in a street. His character Neo seems to be in the digital reality. This could mean that Neo has been transferred to another timeline.

What the reversal will mean in The Matrix 4?

Neo could be mentoring and training the young Morpheus in The Matrix 4. This could explain why Morpheus in the first Matrix movie had so much faith towards Neo because he might have a sense of familiarity with him. This will create a time loop with Neo planting the idea in Morpheus’s mind to look for “Thomas Anderson” or Neo which will make The Matrix paradoxically the next installment.

Keanu Reeves being a mentor figure will suggest that he won’t be the main character of the movie. Morpheus will take the lead and the movie will center around him. The hero’s journey of Neo in the first movie will mirror Morpheus’s journey.

The Matrix 4 will release on 21st May, 2021.
