Princess Diana’s controversial interview (1995)

Netflix will reportedly feature Princess Diana’s infamous BBC interview with the notorious journalist Martin Bashir in an episode of The Crown’s season 5. It was the same interview in which Diana has unveiled her family secrets. In that interview, Princess Diana stated that “there were three of us in this marriage…it was a bit crowded”. She stated that in reference to Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Recently Prince William referred to the 1995 broadcast as a “false narrative that holds no legitimacy”. He also added that the interview should never be aired again. In fact, Prince Harry directly links the interview to Diana’s death.

Netflix believes the interview to be a keystone moment!

Nevertheless, the makers of the hit series believe the interview to be a keystone moment of season 5. Apparently, The crown’s producers have committed a whole episode for the interview besides spending millions on it. A Netflix associate explaining the imperative need of the interview said, “To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Princess Diana led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months.” As per the associate, The Crown has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family’s history and that they’d rather be left alone.
