Tales of Dunk & Egg: The Game of Thrones Prequel Series Adds Big Names in the Team

Tales of Dunk & Egg to have Steve Conrad as the scriptwriter

HBO is developing the next Game of Thrones prequel after House of The Dragon. Titled Tales of Dunk & Egg, the series comes from GoT creator George R. R. Martin. It tells the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire.

According to Variety, the series has roped in Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Amazon’s Patriot) as a writer and executive producer on the series.

Tales of Dunk & Egg will be adapted from 3 of Martin’s prequel novels – 1998’s The Hedge Knight, 2003’s The Sworn Sword, and 2010’s The Mystery Knight. The three works were collected into a series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, all telling the adventures of Ser Duncan and young Aegon.

Back in 2017, Martin was asked if he’s interested in doing a Dunk & Egg series, but he responded with a “no,” since he was interested in writing more novellas to add to their stories. But he did say that he will eventually do it, since he and a lot of fans would love it. He said he would like to publish seven or eight more before wrapping up the stories, but admitted that he was slow in writing, and television shows move very quickly.

We are not far off from the release of the first Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, as Tales of Dunk & Egg makes it way. We will also be getting more insight on the house Targaryen, with co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik even teasing “a different tone” for the series.

Let’s hope that House of the Dragon and Tales of Dunk & Egg get faithful adaptations and not rushed by the end like Game of Thrones.
