Sofia Vergara plays Griselda Blanco in the series from the creators of Narcos
Netflix has released a first look image for their upcoming limited series Griselda. The Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara, will be playing the infamous Colombian cartel crimelord Griselda Blanco. The six-episode series will be produced by the creative team of Narcos, which told the story of another Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar.
Griselda Blanco was one of the biggest and most powerful players in the Colombian drug empire. She was known as known as La Madrina, the Black Widow, the Cocaine Godmother and the Queen of Narco-Trafficking. She had transported cocaine from Colombia to the United States from the 1980s to the early 2000s. She also became the first-ever billionaire female criminal and was responsible for the death of 200 people.
Blanco was a member of the Medellín Cartel, the organization founded by Escobar. She is also credited to be the person who gave the idea of drug smuggling to Escobar. She was shot and killed at the age of 69 in 2012.
In the image, we can see Sofia Vergara giving a tough stare at the camera while smoking a cigarette. Her appearance has been significantly altered with the help of prosthetics, which brings a more menacing expression to the otherwise funny and much-adored actress. Vergara is also producing the series.
Aside from Sofia Vergara, the series also consists of many Latin stars, including actors from Narcos. From Narcos, we have Alberto Guerra, Alberto Ammann, and Gabriel Sloyer. Then we have Vanessa Ferlito (NCIS: New Orleans), Christian Tappan (The Great Heist), Diego Trujillo (Metastasis), Paulina Davila (Luis Miguel), Juliana Aidén Martinez (Blacklist), Martin Rodriguez (Detrás de la verdad), and José Zúñiga (American Crime Story, Versace).
