Shut In will arrive in January 2022
The first teaser for Shut In, a contained thriller from director D.J. Caruso (xXx: The Return of Xander Cage) dropped in early October, and now we have the full trailer. The Daily Wire production stars Rainey Qualley (Love in the Time of Corona) in the lead alongside Vincent Gallo (The Brown Bunny, Buffalo 66), who is returning after nearly ten years away from Hollywood.
Story and production
Being a contained movie, Shut In is almost entirely shot inside a house and its premises. Qualley stars as a young single mother, who gets locked in a room and held captive by her violent ex and accomplices, while her two young children are left outside. She must do everything in her power to survive and protect her children.
Shut In was initially announced in 2019, and was described as a thriller that is similar to Panic Room. At the start, it was planned to be directed by Ozark star Jason Bateman and New Line Cinema set to produce. However, New Line backed out of the project, and Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk came on board under their company Bonfire Legend. Later the movie was planned to be released through the conservative media company The Daily Wire.
What Caruso had to say
In an interview with Deadline, Caruso said that he was excited to get on board the project after hearing the brilliant script by Melanie Toast in 2019. He said he was given the creative freedom to create a flawed, but graceful character who had to fight her own addictions, as well as overcome the dark path laid out in front of her.
The movie will be available on the site in January 2022, but there are plans for an international launch as well.
