Netflix has just acquired something exciting! Scott Pilgrim, the popular graphic novel that was adapted into an even more popular Edgar Wright movie is returning, but this time as an anime series on Netflix.
The streamer has teamed up with UCP, the Universal Studio sub division that has brought us shows like The Umbrella Academy and Chucky, and will soon reveal the series order and number of episodes.
Brains of the operation
Scott Pilgrim creator and co-artist Bryan Lee O’Malley is on board as writer and executive producer, along with BenDavid Grabinski, the showrunner of Nickelodeon’s revival of Are You Afraid of the Dark? They will also be co-showrunners, and has brought in Japanese animation house Science SARU on board to do the animation work. Science SARU’s Eunyoung Choi will also be a producer on the series, and Abel Gongora, who is the head of Science SARU’s digital animation department will be the director.
The show is also bringing together the band members from the 2010 movie, along with Wright and his producing partner Nira Park as executive producers.
About the series
Scott Pilgrim brings together fantasy and romantic comedy in a never before seen way, and tells the story of the titular lazy bum and his friends, who has formed a garage band called Sex Bob-omb. Things change when he meets a girl named Ramona Flowers, who is beautiful and recently single. But before Scott and Ramona can become an item, he is challenged by her seven exes, and is forced to defeat them with some over-the-top fight scenes.
The graphic novel first came out in 2004 and has six volumes, all of which are international bestsellers.
