Netflix’s Anatomy of a Scandal Review: Should it be Streamed or Skipped?

The story of power and sexual assault in the British Parliament

Netflix‘s latest drama miniseries, Anatomy of a Scandal is out, and so are the reviews. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan. The six-part miniseries dropped on Netflix on April 15, 2022. Let’s read in detail.

Anatomy of a Scandal Story

Anatomy of a Scandal
Netflix

The series is about the affair of a British home minister named James Whitehouse (Rupert Friend). James is a member of the Parliament and is a close friend of the prime minister, and he gets word that a scandal is about to break in the news.

The story is primarily told from the point of view of Sophie (Sienna Miller), James’ wife. James tells her about his affair with a subordinate named Olivia (Naomi Scott), she tries hard to stay composed. But we later see her puking in the kitchen. She knows that she cannot leave him and keep the family’s best interest in mind. James even says he is willing to quit politics and take care of his family. Sophie gets a momentary relief but little does she know that the case is tackled by a powerful barrister Kate Woodcroft (Michelle Dockery).

Things only seem to get worse after Olivia accuses James of rape, and both his career and personal life is hanging by a thread.

Final Verdict

Anatomy of a Scandal
Netflix

The series shows the life of the ultra-rich classes of Britain. The dialogues are just plain weird to hear, and the characters don’t speak like actual humans do. The camera work gets tiring real soon when almost all of it is taken from a tilted angle or is upside down. Even the surprising twist towards the end falls flat. The first part is enjoyable, but it gets more and more ridiculous as the story progresses.
