Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson Reunite for ‘Father Stu’
Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson will be reuniting for their upcoming project ‘Father Stu’. The actors have previously starred together in the Christmas comedy film ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ (2017), directed by Sean Anders. The actors will be working together once again for the biopic. Sony Pictures acquired the international distribution rights for ‘Father Stu’ and are planning to release the film around Easter.
The movie will follow the life of Stuart Long, a real life boxer turned priest. The late Stuart ‘Stu’ Long had a prominent boxing career but he gave it all up to become a priest.
Gibson and Wahlberg: The Father-Son Duo
Mel Gibson will be playing Stu’s father and Wahlberg will be the protagonist Stu. This will mark the second time that the Gibson plays Wahlberg’s father in a movie. Actress Teresa Ruiz, best known for portraying Isabella Bautista in Narcos: Mexico will be starring as Long’s girlfriend. This upcoming movie will not only shed light on Long’s professional but will also explore his personal life, that largely remains hidden.
Gibson’s partner as The Director
Rosalind Ross, Gibson’s partner will be debuting as a director with this movie. Initially, David O. Russell was supposed to direct this movie but Wahlberg was impressed Ross’ script writing therefore she will be directing. The biopic will be produced by Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, and Jordon Foss and executive produced by Miky Lee, Colleen Camp, Patrick Peach, and Tony Grazia.
Wahlberg shared his views on Father Stu ad said that he was a tough guy, anything but spiritual. He decided to become a priest after falling for a woman. He said that Father Stu found his calling in serving God. Stu suffered a muscle degenerative disease and passed away inspiring thousands of people.
The movie will release on April 15 and will face competition from ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’.
