Lily James will feature in the Netflix produced film ‘Dig’. Read on to know about the release date and plot details!

Actress Lily James has joined the cast of ‘Dig’, a new period drama movie in development for Netflix. The cast includes  stars Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes

As per reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Stone is set to direct the feature, with Gabrielle Tana producing.

PLOT AND RELEASE DATE

‘Dig’ is based on a true story set at the turn of World War II. It focuses on a widow (Mulligan) with a notion that her land has buried riches. She turns the property into an archeological site when she discovers her intuition is right.

Carey Mulligan is starring as the widow, Edith Pretty. Meanwhile, Fiennes is Basil Brown, a local archeologist who works with her only to see himself set aside by museum curators.

Meanwhile, Lily James will portray the role of an archeological student named Peggy Preston. Peggy is disappointed by the many oppressive men who are working at the dig. However, she finds friendship with Pretty and Brown.

The film is expected to start shooting in early 2020. But no release date has been confirmed till now.

Lily James On Cinderella and shedding her “image”

Strangely, the 30-year-old is known for her work in period dramas. This includes her breakout role in the TV show ‘Downton Abbey‘, as well as supporting roles in ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’, ‘War & Peace‘, and ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society‘.

But earlier this year, Lily said she was keen to shed the “blonde, sweet” image. She is also known for her roles in ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’.

She added that Cinderella was “a gift”, and she “will treasure it for the rest of my life.”

Furthermore, after the death of her father, James Thomson from cancer, she took her father’s given name as her stage name. She did it after she learned there was already an actress named Lily Thomson.
