After all the trailers and teasers, ‘His Dark Materials’ is set to make our Sunday nights a lot darker.
The Tv show premiered on BBC One on 3rd November in the UK and a day after in HBO. The dark fantasy TV series is an adaptation from an epic three-volume fantasy novel by Philip Pullman. The show maker of the series has promised to make the audience hooked on it.
HBO has already compared the show’s level with ‘Game of Thrones’. There will be a total of eight episodes. Each will be released in a week. Philip Pullman began his first novel Northern Lights in 1995. The next was The Subtle Knife and the last fantasy volume was The Amber Spyglass.
These three sets of fantasy books sold 18 million copies worldwide. It got a positive response and praise from the readers. It won several plaudits like the Whitebread Book of the Year in 2001 for The Amber Spyglass.
The show is about young and brave woman Lyra (role played by Dafne Keen), who is from some other world. She is in search of a kidnapped friend. Meanwhile, she discovers an evil conspiracy that included some stolen children.
That’s how the plot starts. The mysteries get to unwind and the fantasy world begins. It becomes a hunt to interpret a strange phenomenon called Dust. The tale comprises of many parallel globes. Lyra initially lives along with her uncle but he transfers her into a nomadic life.
There she encounters a handsome traveler Lee Scoresby. Together, they start their travel among different parallel worlds.
All the actors in the show are amazing. Dafne Keen plays the role of the orphan woman Lyra Belacqua. The character of Marisa Coulter is portrayed by Ruth Wilson while character Ma Costa by actor Anne Marie.
Other cast includes James Cosmo (aka Dr. Carne), Ariyon Bakare (aka Lord Carlo Boreal), Will Keen (aka Father MacPhail) and Lucian Msamati (aka John Faa).
The show has a huge budget. It’s definitely entertaining and breaks the monotony with a variety of stuff. A must watch series!
