Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’s First Trailer Introduces Special Guest to the MCU

Time to get your Footloose

The first (and possibly, only) trailer for James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is out, and it brought in all the superheroic cheer that we can expect. The best part was that it included an A-list celebrity, not as a Marvel character, but as himself. Aside from the trailer, an official poster has also been released featuring Drax and Mantis, who are primarily featured in the episode.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special contains a story like any good Holiday Special – of good friends helping each other. Peter is low for this year since Gamora dies in Avengers: Infinity War and the one that returned in Avengers: Endgame has had no memory of their relationship. Since Peter is a huge fan of the classic dance movie Footloose, Drax and Mantis take it upon themselves to cheer him by bringing him his hero, Kevin Bacon. Kevin is a throwback to the very first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, where Peter makes references to Footloose.

So they head over to Kevin’s house, and his first reaction is pure fear as the two beings in front of him are actual aliens. Kevin screams, pushes his Christmas tree down to slow them, and boots out of the house as Mantis and Drax chase him. Characters like Kraglin, Nebula, Rocket, and Groot are also present, but the stars of the show are these two.

Gunn had previously stated that the Holiday Special would serve as the epilogue of Phase 4, which is going to end with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Phase 5 begins in February, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania being the first project.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special releases on November 25, 2022. Check out the trailer below!
