The movie is described to be a noir-action that centers around a former boxer who gets targeted by a mysterious gang when he goes looking for his father who abandoned him. He goes on the run while trying to uncover the secrets of his mysterious pursuers. Kim Seon Ho’s role had been confirmed a few months back, and the actor spoke about his excitement in starring in his first feature film, after doing dramas until now.

Sad Topics will be directed by Park Hoon Jung, who had made hits like 2015’s The Tiger, and 2013’s New World, starring Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae. The new movie is set to begin in December 10 and expected to wrap up by the end of February.

Kim Seon Ho was accused by his ex-girlfriend for making her undergo an abortion on the pretext of marrying her, and then breaking up. He was soon removed from a number of projects as well as commercials. Some commercial producers cited the reason to be irresponsibility and lack of professionalism.

As for his role in Sad Tropics, the makers tried replacing him after the scandal, but were not available to find a suitable lead in such short notice, and had to proceed with him. They also tried delaying the shooting for next year, but due to many scheduling conflicts of the actors, had to proceed with the December date.
