Get to know how the show will move forward, after all the controversy caused by Jussie Smollett

Empire had quite the year. The show’s fifth season started with a major reveal that someone close to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is going to die. In the 18 episode duration, we got to learn more about the person who issued this threat to the Lyons. The reason why he was so hell-bent on revenge was because he was Lucious’ first-born son.

We also get to see Lucious and Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) relationship, strained as it was, getting worse and this resulted in Cookie growing fond of Damon Cross (Wood Harris), and we got to see Andre (Trai Byers) falling for a new person, then later gets diagnosed with cancer and later found out that the cancer treatment had been making his heart weaker.

Towards the end of the season, the body in the coffin that Lucious was mourning was shown to be his son Kingsley (A.Z. Kelsey) who committed suicide in front of his father after his own mother revealed to him that she should’ve aborted him instead of raising him. Andre got married at the hospital and he received Kingsley’s heart.

Off-camera, Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal in the show has been causing quite the stir, and his character had been written off the show. It was found out that he had been playing victim to a crime he organized. Smollett said that he was the victim of a racist, homophobic attack in early 2019, but was later accused of hiring the attackers and got indicted for filing false charges to the police. The charges had been dropped but Chicago still filed a lawsuit against him.

Season 6 will be proceeding without him, as per latest news.
