Dwayne Rock Johnson with his co-star, Emily Blunt introduced his upcoming Disney movie Jungle Cruise in front of a crowd of seven thousand people at the D23 Expo on Saturday (24th of August). Both Johnson and Blunt entertained the people with their friendly banter while introducing the movie.
Johnson and Blunt acknowledged that their upcoming adventure movie harkens back to the spirit of movies like the Indiana Jones’ films, Romancing the Stone and The African Queen.
Johnson entered the stage riding a wheeled mock-up of the boat he captained in the movie, La Quila. Seeing this, the crowd at once burst into applause.
“Sometimes you just need me to save the day!”, said Johnson. Then, he was showing the trailer of the film suspiciously skewed towards his character when Blunt entered into a classic car model. She protested and presented her own trailer that put her character, Lily, first.
By far, whatever we could infer from the two trailers was that Johnson plays the character of a cruising skipper, Frank while Blunt plays the character of an explorer, Lily Houghton. Frank is seen caught in a financial crisis when the character of Lily offers him heavily to take her on a dangerous expedition. On the expedition, Lily and Frank are initially seen hurling insults at each other, pulling each other’s leg and pulling off stunts. But finally, they join hands to fight a mysterious snake covered entity.
“We were just so moved, so honored to be in a movie like this”, said Blunt regarding her casting in the movie. Because both of them grew up loving Indiana Jones and obsessing with those kinds of movies
On the other hand, Johnson said about the movie, “We wanted to make a movie that was big, that was epic, that had romance, big comedy, big action”. The movie is set to release in July of 2020.
