The movie comes five years after its predecessor
The Conjuring Universe is not over. Valak is all set to return in The Nun 2, five years after the first one came out. The series of horror movies have enjoyed a lot of success since its inception in 2013. Starting with The Conjuring, it gave way to spin-offs like The Nun and the Annabelle trilogy. The demonic nun Valak made her entry in The Conjuring 2 in 2016, before getting her solo movie in 2018.
Success of The Nun
Thanks to being a show stealer in The Conjuring 2, The Nun became a big hit at the box office, making $53.8 million on opening week. The movie earner $365.6 million worldwide and was the highest-grossing movie in the Conjuring Universe. However, Rotten Tomatoes was not a fan and gave it the lowest score out of all the movies. The impressive run at the box office was enough to have a sequel in the works. But very few updates have come in these five years.
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that the sequel will be coming to theatres next year. It will be directed by Michael Chaves, director of The Curse of La Llorona and The Devil Made Me Do It. The movie was first announced as part of CinemaCon in April 2022, but was silent since then. The movie’s release news came along with the sad news of Aquaman 2 and Shazam 2 being delayed yet again.
Release Date
The Nun 2 is set to release on September 8, 2023, the same weekend when the first movie came out. The movie will come out one week after Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer 3. However, Warner Bros. is hopeful that by giving the same release weekend as the first movie, it will once again strike gold.
