The villain had existed in the MCU since phase 1
Tim Roth, who stars as Emil Blonsky/ The Abomination, is all set to return in the new Disney+ series, She-Hulk. The actor has now confirmed that his character will retain his human form in the series, and shared some updates on a recent interview.
Roth’s interview
Roth recently appeared on the On Tape podcast hosted by Dempsey Pillot of The DisInsider. The Abomination was last seen in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in a brief scene where he was fighting Wong (Benedict Wong). Fans were pleasantly surprised to see that the character has now evolved into a more comic-accurate look.
In the comics, the Abomination had green skin, but it was much darker. He had a more brutish look, with webbed ears, and a scaly appearance.
Roth was asked if he would have a physical appearance in the MCU, and responded “Oh yeah” without hesitation. Now, we are not aware if this was meant to be a secret as Marvel is very secretive about such things. Roth also described his return as “weird,” and said Marvel fans can expect a bit of everything in She-Hulk. He also praised lead star Tatiana Maslany and called her a powerhouse.
The character’s origins
Emil Blonsky/ Abomination was created by Stan Lee and Gil Kane, and first appeared in 1967’s Tales to Astonish #90. In the comics, Blonsky was a KGB agent who infiltrated an Air Force base in New Mexico where Bruce Banner waas trying to kill the Hulk by overexposure to gamma rays. Blonsky interrupts the event and caused Banner to turn into the Hulk, while he himself became this scaly creature.
In the MCU, he’s part of the British Royale Marines who was tasked with General Ross’ (William Hurt) Hulkbuster Unit. He was injected with a variant of the super soldier serum to combat the Hulk, but later injects himself with Banner’s own blood and turned himself into the Abomination.
She-Hulk is expected to come out later this year.
