Will Smith, Jessica Chastain, Troy Kotsur, are among the winners
The 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards aired Sunday night, with 15 categories in total. Both TV and films were covered as always. Below are the list of winners for each major category.
Movie winners
For the best ensemble film, CODA was the winner. The musical drama featured a predominantly deaf cast became one of the biggest hits of 2021. The shocked cast expressed their love to the audience via sign language. CODA won a second time later that night when Troy Kotsur won the best supporting actor. Kotsur became the first deaf actor to win a SAG award.
Next up, Jessica Chastain won best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. She spoke about working on the project for ten years, and finally create something that will make Tammy Faye Bakker proud.
Will Smith won best actor for King Richard. The actor was overcome by emotion and said that it may have been one of the greatest moments in his career.
For best supporting actress, the winner is Ariana DeBose for West Side Story. The star called the movie a great cinematic experience and thanked director Steven Spielberg.
Television winners
Let’s now move on to TV. Jason Sudeikis took the best leading actor award for Ted Lasso. Jean Smart won best leading actress for Hacks. The two stars had also won during the Emmys in September. Succession won the best drama series ensemble, after not being eligible at the Emmys.
Lee Jung-jae won best actor in a drama series for Squid Game. The shocked actor said that it was a big moment for him, and he did not even prepare a speech. His co-star Jung Ho-yeon won the best actress award in a drama series later that night.
