Just when the star power cannot get any bigger

After the successful revival of Dune by Denis Villeneuve, fans are now excitedly waiting for the sequel. Casting for Dune 2 is going on in full swing, and the newest member has just been announced. Florence Pugh (Little Women, Black Widow), will play Princess Irulan, daughter of the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. The movie will also reunite Pugh with her Little Women co-star Timothée Chalamet.

With this casting comes the question if there will be more Dune movies. In the first novel, Princess Irulan is a minor character. She gets caught up in the conflict between House Atreides and House Corrino. Irulan’s writings about Paul Atreides are present as breaks and epigraphs in the book. However, In Dune Messiah, the second book, Princess Irulan has a much bigger part to play.

This information comes from The Hollywood Reporter. Big characters are yet to appear, and we can expect the cast to be announced in the coming months. The most anticipated roles out of these are for Shaddam IV, and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the evil nephew for Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård). Various sources also suggest that Robert Pattinson has a chance to play Feyd-Rautha. Pattinson himself has expressed his interest in starring in Dune 2.

Pugh is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at present, with everyone wanting a piece of her. Christopher Nolan has recruited the actress for his magnum opus Oppenheimer. Pugh will play Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party and a temporary lover of Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy). She is also in the running for Madonna’s biopic. We can also expect Pugh to appear in multiple projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova.
