The movie will be arriving this Fall
On Sunday, there was a special stage presentation for the Sword Art Online series at AnimeJapan 2022. At the event, a special teaser was unveiled for their latest movie: Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk). This marks the second movie in the Progressive series. Here’s everything you need to know about the movie.
Sword Art Online Progressive 2 Details
We got to see new art from the series last week. Now, the release date and the franchise’s future has also been announced. Scherzo of the Dark Dusk will be released by the end of the year. The cast and crew are slated to return, including Ayako Kohno, the director.
The sequel will follow author Reki Kawahara’s spin-off series. It will be a retelling of the franchise’s very first arc, and has Kirito fighting the forces of evil in the floating castle of Aincrad. The first movie of the series, Aria of a Starless Night had the female lead Asuna’s perspective in mind. Also, a new character named Mito, who is also Asuna’s real-life classmate, made her debut. In fact, Mito is the one who got Asuna hooked to the game.
The movie will be produced once again by A-1 Pictures. We are not sure about the official songs, as the teaser used ‘Crossing Field’ by LiSA, the opening of the very first season.
Other Announcements
On November, Sword Art Online also celebrated 10 years. The AnimeJapan 2022 event teased that a special event will be conducted in Tokyo on November 6. Additionally, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night’s home video will be available on July 8.
